What is a Photo Facial?
The Photo Facial procedure is an series of intense
light pulses (IPL) that are absorbed by abnormally enlarged
vessels or pigmentation as they make way through the skin's
surface. The heat of the light pulses weakens the enlarged
vessels or lesions which triggers normal healing progression
and collagen production and in turn minimizing / improving the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Lesions can form and
will darken before being absorbed by the body or flaking off.
This process causes no damage to the skin and is FDA
approved.
The
Photo Facial Treatment
The area to be treated is prepared
by cleansing and applying a cool gel. If desired, a topical
anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area to minimize
any discomfort. The pulses of light (IPL) are then distributed
to the treatment area varying from 1 to 1:30 hours. At the
completion of the photo facial procedure, the gel is removed
from the skin and purified. A cool mask will be applied after
the photo facial to sooth the skin. After removing the
soothing mask, a toner, moisturizer and SPF 30+ will be
applied. Daily activities can be resumed immediately following
a Photo Facial Procedure.
Frequency of the Treatment
The
number of treatments required varies from patient to patient.
Significant improvements may be seen after 2 to 3 treatments,
however, 6 treatments are normally recommended for best
possible results. Patients achieve a high level of
satisfaction following photo facial procedure recommendations
seeing from 70% to 90 % improvement toward more even toned,
smoother skin.
Are
there side effects from a Photo Facial
Procedure? Although side effects are rare it is
recommended that prior to a photo facial, exposure to the sun
be reduced several weeks before and after treatment. Treatment
can effect capillaries making them more visible, pigmentation
may appear darker and the skin may look flushed. These side
effects would be visible directly following treatment.
Temporary swelling and/or blistering may occur but is very
rare.
Who
should consider the photo facial procedure?
If
you are suffering from: Rosacea, Flushing, Age spots, Sun
damaged skin, Photo Aging, Mild acne scars, Large Pores, Dark
Circles around the eyes and Fine lines. Photo Facials leads to
restoration of even toned, smoother skin.
Photo
Facials and Rosacea? Rosacea is a skin
condition which causes redness and flushing of the skin. Common
causes of rosacea include: Exposure to the sun, Alcohol
consumption, Aging, Stress and Medication. The Photo Facial
Procedure reduces the flushed appearance of the skin which
minimizes the necessity for antibiotics and cortisone
creams.
